Miles "90th Percentile" Grimmius

Miles had his 6 month checkup today with Dr. Bunkers. Remember the results from his 4 month checkup? We've got good news -- he has grown since then! Back in March Miles was known as Mr. 75th Percentile. He has since surpassed approximately 15% more of the other babies his age. What an overachiever!
Here are the latest stats:

Weight = 20 lbs 8 oz (90th percentile)
Height = 27.5 inches (90th percentile)
Head Circumference = 17 3/4 inches (80th percentile...but no doubt on the way to 90th)
Depth of Chin Dimple = .10 cm (34th percentile and yes, it's gone down in depth again)
Shots = 2 + 1 oral vaccine (Rotovirus. Yummy!)

"They" (i.e. medical professionals) recommend babies double their birth weight by 5 to 6 months of age. Check. They also recommend babies reach 20 lbs or at least triple their birth weight by one year of age. He's met the 20 lb mark and is well on his way to tripling his 8.2 lb starting weight. Once again, our little overachiever is making us proud!

Miles' cute cousin Hannah turns the big #1 on Monday. She is coming to visit (and help celebrate Grandpa Larry's retirement) next weekend! Miles can't wait to size her up and drool on her toys! We're afraid he's going to be catching up to Uncle Charlie pretty soon... he could very well be 6 feet by the end of the year. Don't you think?!

Another thing about our overachiever (Tanner just reminded me of this, so I better tell you about it while it's on my mind):
Miles painted butterflies at school today. His teacher said he was having so much fun and didn't want to stop, but unfortunately ran out of room on the paper. Poor boy! We'd better send some extra paper with him on Monday.

Alas, here are some pictures of late:

MMMMMMM!

This is why babies get hurt in Bumbos - their parents put them in high places and take pictures from below.

Another dangerous Bumbo session, but at least he had fun with the paper towels.

Memorial Day 2008

It's a gorgeous day! After a very fun weekend in St. Peter with grandmas and grandpas and aunties and uncles (and seeing Grandpa Larry off to retirement land), the Owatonna Grimmius crew is enjoying some quality family time today, especially outside. Miles thinks his exersaucer is even MORE fun under the sun, and I agree. Even better, his squeals travel a longer distance when we're outside! What could be better in the life of a 6 month old?

Here is Miles playing while mommy plants some flowers (and yes, he's wearing plenty of sunscreen):

Here is daddy playing with his new Weed Hog:

Now Miles is napping, daddy is hitting golf balls, and mommy is catching up on life around the house. It's been a wonderful weekend and we're sad to see it coming to an end... Maybe we'll get a snowstorm tonight and we'll get another day off from work? Hey, a girl can hope.

Mickey and Friends

Florida is warm! And busy! But WARM!
I returned yesterday afternoon from a brief visit to Orlando, where I attended a conference about health promotion/marketing strategies for the Medicaid population. Wooo hooo!

Actually, it was a GREAT conference and - coming from a person who doesn't so much care for conferences - that means it really was GREAT. Of course the bright FL sun helped, as did the close proximity (1/2 mile) of the Magic Kingdom and Epcot (1 mile). I stayed at Disney's Contemporary Resort. Quite the place! It is bordered by two different lakes (man-made, of course. Everything is man-made at Disney World.). One of the lakes is surrounded by 4 resorts, including the Contemporary, as well as the Magic Kingdom -- makes for a pretty spectacular view at night. The Monorail provides free rides to/from each resort (in fact, it goes right through the Contemporary), the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and whatever else makes up Disney World. Pretty cool!
I traveled alone, but ended up seeing two women from Stedfast -- the county-based health plan in Rochester -- whom I know from various work events. It was a pleasant surprise to see two familiar faces at the conference, and to be able to spend an evening at Epcot with them on Thursday. We had a great time!
The highlight of the trip, though, was seeing Aunt Mary and Cousin Matt (I still call him Matthew, but I'm working on it). It was so great spending Friday night with them! We ate dinner at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary, where they were hassled by Goofy. He was the last of all the main Disney characters to visit our table, and I wasn't about to let them get away without being photographed....

Here's a shot of the Magic Kingdom from a restaurant on the 15th floor of the Contemporary. Notice the Runaway Train ride -- I think we rode that about 132 times when the Potty Family visited Disney back in the late '80s.

Mickey sent a cute hat back for Miles.

And here's Miles in his other hat, totally zonked out after a long day of welcoming mommy home (or going grocery shopping...).

More pictures of the trip to come. Stay tuned!
