A very generous family hosted "Breakfast on the Farm" at their home near Claremont this morning. The event was expected to draw such a crowd that they had people park at the Steele County Fair Grounds and hop a ride on a bus out to the farm.According to a little pamphlet, the Mussman family farms over 400 acres of land. They grow corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and oats. They also have 50 cows and 80 youngstock (baby cows? baby chickens? baby horses? I don't know.). Ma and Pa Mussman have also raised three daughters, including the current Princess Kay of the Milky Way. No kidding! We chatted with her a bit while we were in line for breakfast...Miles flashed her a smile and she rubbed his head. For those of you not familiar with the Princess Kay title, it's quite the job. Along with a crown comes the honor of having her head carved out of a 90 lb slab of butter. REAL butter, mind you. We saw Kristy's butter head this morning, and it was pretty cool (literally).
Now about Miles.

After eating, we visited some farm fresh animals.
Then Miles checked out the tractors.

He and daddy tried to figure out which gear would allow them to drive away the fastest.
Fortunately we didn't need to drive a tractor home because the bus came back to get us.

It sure looks like you had a great time on the farm! The picture of you petting the baby chick reminds me of the way you gently touch your little cousins's heads. Are the chicks' feathers as soft as Ethan and Owen's hair??! I notice that your mommy and daddy helped you pick out a tractor shirt to wear, and also some John Deere crocs. You certainly were ready for a day on the farm!
I had a student this semester who was one of the Dairy Princesses last year, and I saw a picture of her butter head. This summer she's going to have a corn roast on her farm and everyone gets to use the butter.
Maybe there should be Dairy Princes, too, Miles. Your hair is the right color and it's not even made of butter!

So so so cute! But the butter head thing is disturbing. Is the same one on display at the MN State Fair? If so, gross! That's some old butter!
