We snuggled up around 8pm, I turned on my best Charlie the Ranch Dog voice, and we got busy reading.
About 5 pages into the story Miles stopped me and said, "Mom...please read it regular. I don't want you to use a funny voice anymore. Just read it regular."
Booooooo.
No. Fun. Allowed.
Usually Miles is all about the silly voices and animated story telling, but not tonight. He was all business and wanted to really focus on Charlie and his ranch dog responsibilities. I'll try again another night. Wish me luck.

Even at his young age, Miles understands the concept of reading book like a reader first--for understanding. I used to tell my writing class students to read like a reader first, then read like a writer to look for interesting words, if the writing is fluent, how it is organized, etc. I guess Miles wants to read like a reader, and then like an actor!
Good point, mom. But that's too intellectual for me...reading like a reader first, for understanding. If I did that, it would take me months to get through one issue of People magazine.
I've got a hunch this kid is destined to become a teacher. Somebody stop him! Bahahahahahahaha :)
xoxoxo
