Happy Labor Day!

"Labor Day differs in every essential way from the other holidays of
the year in any country," said Samuel Gompers, founder and longtime
president of the American Federation of Labor." All other holidays are in a more

or less degree connected with conflicts and battles of man's prowess over man, of strife
and discord for greed and power, of glories achieved by one nation over another.
Labor Day...is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect, race, or nation."
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement
and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers.
It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made
to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
What did you do this weekend? REALLY?! You should blog about it!
Here is how Tanner and I kept busy (in case you care...but if you don't care, that's okay. We're not offended. In fact, we wouldn't blame you for not caring!)

FRIDAY: We chilled out after work, ate supper, quickly realized nothing good was on tv so decided to go grocery shopping. In bed @ 10:10pm. Yesssss!

SATURDAY: Tanner golfed in the a.m. while Annie went to the farmer's market and cried with delight after purchasing a bag of freshly picked Paula Red apples. Hoorday!!! Then it was off to Rochester where we went crazy registering for baby stuff at Target. It was fun...a bit overwhelming...and also pretty darn scary as we realized just how much baby stuff is out there, and just how much must fill our home in the next 12-13 weeks. Yikes! We calmed down over a delicious dinner at Chipotle - funny how Chipotle can provide such comfort.
Tanner also purchased a "Grass Hog" today (see photo below). According to Tanner, we have the best looking lawn in the city of Owatonna. Good work, honey!
Saturday bed time: 10:15pm. Yessss!

SUNDAY: This was perhaps the most momentous day of the weekend: we witnessed the final transition of Will James Grimmius from home life to college life. We met up with Will and his moving crew (mom/dad) around 10:30am in a parking lot outside of Brady Hall at the University of St. Thomas. From there, we (but not so much Annie...lazy) helped load up a big cart with Will's stuff, which was then promptly brought up to his 2nd floor room via an elevator (UST actually let's students use the elevators on move-in day, believe it or not). After bunking the beds and shuffling the furniture a bit, we unloaded the cart and that was that - he was in! Holy smokes. Gustavus could sure use a few pointers from UST about how to make move-in day a less painful and overall more pleasant experience...hopefully they'll have it figured out within the next 18 years before we move Lil' G to campus. Anywho, it was clear that Will was ready for his freedom around 11:15am, so we very quickly said goodbye and told him we'd be back to visit soon. His response?? "Well make sure you call first...I don't want anyone just showing up."
Okay. Got it. How about if we just plan on seeing you at Christmas?! Ha ha, kidding. We miss you, Will. Now go study.

We apologize for not having any pictures of the big move-in day, but here are some other shots from the weekend:

We got this rug at Golf Galaxy on Saturday. Isn't it funny?! Tanner also got his birthday present at the same store, but I can't blog about it until September 14th (his birthday).

We both spent a lot of time lounging. Loved every minute!

My special project in the coming weeks is to paint letters for Baby G's bedroom. We've got a start, but are still missing about half of the alphabet. Uh oh!

So nice to catch up on your activities this weekend, Annie. You accomplished more than we did, but we got to hold Hannah and smooch her lots. Sorry, but that's just how it goes!

Love, Mom

The trivia question at Caribou on Monday was "In what year was Labor Day first celebrated?"

I had no clue so I said 1962. Turns it out was a bit earlier than that. Any guesses? (Without Googling it?)

They let us use the elevator during the year too.

I'd say about 1882 for the first Labor Day celebration.

Enough with Labor Day already!! It will be YOUR labor day soon enough, so we want an update on Baby G and life in O-Town!
