Weston's 1 Year Stats

Weston Charles (Jay) Grimmius is growing like a weed. Mama took him to his "healthy checkup" this morning, where he acted like an animal (growling and roaring and such) except when Nurse Sarah or Dr. Bunkers were around...then he turned all shy and tried hiding in my lap. What a goofball.

I am proud to report that Weston passed his first year of life with flying colors. He aced it! Here are the stats to prove his healthy lifestyle supports such youthfulness --

Weight = 24 lbs 7 oz; 76th percentile (note that he was fully clothed and sat on an adult scale - no more baby scales for this dude! This is an increase of 4+ lbs in 3 months. Hmmmm.)
Height = 31 inches; 87th percentile (He grew by an inch in the last 3 months)
Head Circumference = 18.75 inches; 81st percentile (a whopping quarter inch growth in 3 months. He's all brains!)
Depth of Chin Dimple = .20 cm; 65th percentile (only sunk another .05 cm. Nothing compared to his big brother's chin.)

You may recall that at one year of age, Miles was 27 pounds and 32 inches tall.

Weston didn't care much for the full body exam today. The question/answer session was fine - he even spoke on command, saying "Mama!" when Dr. Bunkers asked him if he could talk. It all went downhill fast, though, when Dr. Bunkers started getting all up in Westy's business. Weston stayed on my lap while Dr. Bunkers checked out his tootsies, listened to his heart and lungs, examined his ears and eyes, and did the uncomfortable wienskie check (no hernias, thankyouverymuch).

Then came Nurse Sarah with four vials of healthy goodness. Weston was curious as she laid him on a table and held his chubby little legs in place. He looked unsure of what was about to happen, then confirmed it by screaming upon the first needle poke. It was all over quickly and he perked up when I pulled out the bag of Cheerios. Hooray for Cheerios!

I'm going to skip right over the trip to the lab for a finger poke (they needed blood to check hemoglobin and blood lead levels) and just say he survived.

I felt horrible for returning Weston to daycare when the adventure at the Owatonna Clinic had come to an end. After giving his teachers instructions for administering Tylenol, I smooched him and promised to pick him up early. He snuggled into his teacher and refused to even lift his head to look at me as I left the room. Guess that was his way of saying "thanks for helping to make sure I stay healthy, mom" :) Ouch.

Big brother Miles is jealous that HE didn't get to have a healthy checkup today. Maybe even more disappointed that Weston had four healthy shots. Crazy kid. He's excited to get his flu shot soon, although we're probably going to have him get the nose mist version like last year - very slick and "kinda funny", as Miles says. Tanner and I both got our flu shots today, so this Otown family is just about set! Tell us when you get YOUR flu shot (hint hint) and we'll send you a band-aid.

It's time to end the archaic practice of sticking needles in little children to help them stay healthy! Someone smart can come up with a way to put vaccine into an M & M, don't you think?

Congrats, Westy, on growing so well!

Way to go, growing boy! Excellent job dwarfing your slightly older cousin. She's scrappy, though - watch out! :-)

Very sweet pictures. He'd better slow down on the growth. At this rate, when he's 90 he'll way over 1000 lb. BIG WESTY
