Summer is awesome

Mother nature sure knows how to do summer this year.  She gave us a lovely weekend with temps in the 70s.  Perfect for the Nicollet County Fair, which is exactly where these four boys headed after eating donuts (first things first) on Sunday morning --

Unfortunately for little kiddos and unruly teens, the Midway was a little....well....flat this year. Literally.

Fortunately for parents, the carnival company that sets up all the usual rides (and staffs it with all the usual carnies) "double booked" themselves for the week and didn't show up to the fair in St. Peter.  How does that happen?  I don't know, but quite honestly, it's okay with me...  Kudos to the Fair Board, though, for scrambling to get a variety of bounce houses and such lined up for at least a little activity outside of the animal barns and demo derby scene.  Apparently they didn't inflate the portable fun until afternoon today.  Again, that's okay with me.

We had enough fun visiting cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, and bunnies.  There were a few 4H boys hanging out in the poultry and bunny barn who proved to be walking encyclopedias on those animals.  We were impressed by their knowledge, but not enough to go buy a chicken, duck, or bunny.  Instead we continued on to the tractors.  Now that I think about it, there were only a couple of tractors on site.  That's strange. Maybe the farmers double booked themselves for the weekend, too.

In honor of the Nicollet County Fair, these cute NC girls enjoyed some ice cream.  We had Auntie Beesie smooch their chilly lips for us -- who could resist?!

The perfect summer weekend continued back home in Otown as we snacked on fresh watermelon....

and enjoyed a yummy supper of buttery goodness on the cob!  Each of the boys polished off three pieces. They know good corn when they've got it!  (You might recall a similar scene from last summer.)

And now it's time to get ready for the week.  It's going to be hard to not play hooky from work/school this week, as the summer weather lingers on....wish us luck..
