Bye bye, hair!

Today was the day we've dreaded for a looooong time...the day Weston's hair would get cut. This little boy's hair has fit his personality since day one. Even when he was a new baby and his hair had barely grown in, it was a bit unruly. As it grew longer, it became a wild mane of beautiful blonde craziness. It looked its best an hour or so after being washed, but also looked very nice in the morning after a good night of being rubbed around the crib mattress.

Westy's hair was home to many things over the past 15 months. Mac & cheese, tuna hotdish (his favorite dish at school), snot, spaghetti, meatball-n-bean soup (oh yeah!), and many shades of glitter. There was also the occasional pony tail and hair bow.

After an unfortunate incident at school early last week (a friend pulled Westy off a chair by his hair...ouch) we decided that Stylena, the Goddess of Hair, was telling us it was time.

I think Weston knew what was coming because he was ultra sensitive this morning. Nothing in his little world seemed to be going right. And to top it off, daddy (yes, it was all Tanner) decided we should also start weaning him from the dooza (pacifier) this weekend. All this as he's being treated for an ear infection. Is that tough love or what?!

Daddy and Miles ventured down the street to Sara's house to get their hairs cut. Just as Miles was taking his turn, Weston and I joined them so that Weston could watch Miles and perhaps feel a little more comfortable about the whole situation. Ha. Who were we trying to fool?

Here's Miles, who remains Sara's best client. She said he sits better than most adults do in that chair. Miles had his first hair cut on March 4th, 2009. He was just about 15 months old - so a little younger than Weston is right now. Here's how his first hair cut went down...

He loved it! He laughed and didn't seem to want the fun to end. Herein lies the difference between Miles and Weston.
As I mentioned, we arrived early to watch Miles get his hair cut.

Weston was a good observer.

And then it was his turn! He sat in daddy's lap for added comfort. We didn't bother trying to wrap a cape thingy or little towel around his neck - not worth the battle. But daddy was ready! And as Sara told him, she was going to focus on getting Weston's hair cut so it was up to him to dodge the scissors. She doesn't worry about parents - they need to fend for themselves. Fair enough!

Despite getting his dooza back, that plan lasted all of 37 seconds. I ended up standing and holding him while Sara worked fast and furious to clean this boys up --

Why can't he just relax like and enjoy it like his big brother?!

Because he's Westy, that's why!)

Our visit with Sara ended with lots of smiles despite the tears and drama. Westy even blew her a kiss as we walked out the door.

And just for fun, here are some videos of the little monkey (obviously before his hair was introduced to Sara's snippers).

What a fun day...I'm sure Miles wonders what all the fuss is about, too :) Both boys look very handsome in their new haircuts. Miles sure knows how to model for his little brother. Well done, Miles. Well done, Westy!

I'd say keep the dooza nearby for a while until Westy gets used to his new haircut!
